America’s Boating Course

In the state of Ohio, all persons born on or after January 1, 1982 must complete a safe boating course to operate vessels powered by greater then 10 horsepower. This also includes all personal watercraft. America's Boating Course fulfills Ohio's boater education requirement.

Cruise planning focuses on the planning and preparation necessary for safe enjoyable extended cruises on both inland and coastal waters.  It is designed for both sail or powerboat cruising.

 

Engine Maintenance

This course stresses the diagnosis of modern engine systems while teaching the basis of engine layout and operation for gasoline, diesel and outboard engines.  It covers basis mechanical systems including drive, steering, and engine controls.

Sail

Sail is a complete sail course beginning with basic boat designs, rigging and sail processes for the non-sailor. The course proceeds into the physical aspects of sailing, sail applications, marlinespike, helmsmanship, and handling of more difficult sailing conditions, navigation rules, and an introduction to heavy weather sailing.

Overview of your boat’s specific systems, operation, and hands-on practice in docking, close quarters handling, and cruise speed maneuvers including Man Overboard drills. Basic and advanced training for the skipper, spouse, and family members.

As owner and operator of your vessel, you are in command of and fully responsible for your actions and those of your crew.  You will be held accountable for any damages caused by your vessel underway or at dock.  Know the regulations, requirements, and safe operation of your vessel before you take the helm.
